Report: Mountaineers Add Pennsylvania Based Team to Future WVU Football Schedule
The WVU football schedule is already taking shape years into the future. With schedules often made long before the games are actually played, WVU director of athletics Wren Baker has added a team to the West Virginia schedule for the 2030 season, according to FBSchedules.com.
Based on the report, which has not yet been announced by WVU, the Mountaineers will play St. Francis in non conference play in 2030. The game will take place at Milan Puskar Stadium and be a season opening game for West Virginia on August 31, 2030.

The agreement between WVU and St. Francis will play the Red Flash a guaranteed to play the game. This information was obtained by FBSchedules.com through a state Freedom of Information Act request.
To this point, West Virginia and Saint Francis University have never met in football. Adding this non conference game to the 2030 schedules gives WVU room for one more game outside of Big 12 play. Of course, that is assuming the format of the conference only allowing three non conference games for members continues through expansion. Other conference like the ACC do allow four right now.
For background on St. Francis, the school is located in Loretto, Pa. and is a member of the Northeast Conference (NEC), a the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) conference.
The Mountaineers will also play the Backyard Brawl against Pitt in 2030, which will be the second year of the rivalry returning after a brief break when the current series comes to an end. And if Baker stays true to his word, it is likely West Virginia will look to a Group of Five program for its third non conference opponent.
