Sources tell WV Sports Now that West Virginia has reached out to Villanova transfer guard Angelo Brizzi. Brizzi entered the transfer portal on Friday, leaving the team after two seasons within the program.

“Angelo has made the decision to enter his name into the transfer portal,” Villanova head coach Kyle Neptune said in a statement. “We appreciate his contributions to our program and how he has represented Villanova in a first-class way. We wish Angelo the best as he approaches the next step in his basketball career.”

Brizzi is a redshirt freshman from Virginia who was recruited to Villanova as a 3-star prospect from the 2021 class. The 6-foot-3 guard averaged 2.0 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 10.8 minutes through nine games this season. Brizzi has three years of eligibility left.

Brizzi will not be eligible to return to the court until the 2023-24 season but may commit to a program before then.

West Virginia’s basketball program is looking to continue building through the transfer portal again this offseason. WVU head coach Bob Huggins and his coaching staff have embraced the portal after landing Erik Stevenson, Emmitt Matthews, Tre Mitchell, Joe Toussaint and Jose Perez all within the last calendar year.

WV Sports Now will keep you up-to-date on Brizzi’s recruitment.
