The Road Remaining for WVU

No.25 Iowa State (5-2) – October 4th

Matt Campbell has his Cyclones playing extremely well and with a bit of confidence. With their best start in over a decade, Iowa State finds itself back in the rankings for the first time since 2005. Tough news for Iowa State fans, however, they begin a tough 3 game gauntlet this weekend vs 4th ranked TCU then head to Morgantown before returning back home to take on Oklahoma State. The Cyclones may have one of the best defenses in the conference, allowing an average of 12.7 points per game in conference play. Since having to replace starting quarterback Jacob Park, the Cyclones have found confidence in redshirt senior Kyle Kempt. West Virginia will find themselves in a dogfight in this matchup and may have to win in sloppy fashion.

ESPN’s chance of winning via Football Power Index (FPI): West Virginia 54.2%

My prediction: Defensive Coordinator Tony Gibson must clamp down on the run game and force Kyle Kempt to beat you through the air. David Montgomery is one of the better unknown backs in the league and can be a force to be reckoned with. The Mountaineers come away with an ugly 38-34 victory.
