Despite some rumors that she was headed home to WVU, West Virginia native guard Marley Washenitz announced she signed with Arizona State on Thursday.

She entered the transfer portal and left Pitt three weeks ago. But instead of switching sides of the Backyard Brawl, Washenitz will instead face WVU as an opponent again, this time within the Big 12.

A 5-foot-7 guard out of Fairmont, W.Va., Washenitz averaged 9.3 points and 2.7 assists this year for the Panthers while shooting 35% from three-point range.

She concluded her season with a 10-point, five-rebound game, playing all 40 minutes against Virginia in the Panthersโ€™ ACC Tournament loss.

Washenitz was initially committed to become a Mountaineer out of high school, the COVID rules cost her a roster spot at the time. She scored over 500 points and dished out over 200 assists during her time at Pitt.
