West Virginia has the opportunity to secure a 7-seed in the Big 12 Conference Tournament next week if they defeat No. 11 Kansas State on Saturday.

WVU will need help from Texas Tech, who will have to beat Oklahoma State as well. If both scenarios happen, West Virginia would beat OSU in the tiebreaker for the 7-seed. West Virginia or Oklahoma State would play 10-seed Oklahoma next Wednesday night.

If WVU loses to K-State, the Mountaineers will get the eight or nine seed.

West Virginia currently stands at 6-11 in conference play while Oklahoma State is 7-10. The Cowboys are currently on a five-game losing streak, which includes an 18-point loss to WVU. The tiebreaker would be based on records against the top Big 12 opponents. Going down the line, WVU would be 1-1 against Kansas State if they win on Saturday, while Oklahoma State lost both times to the Wildcats.

WVU currently stands as one of the “last four byes” according to ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi. The Mountaineers picked up their biggest win of the season in Ames against Iowa State earlier in the week. West Virginia needs just one more win before Selection Sunday to solidify their NCAA Tournament hopes.
