Now that the 2025 WVU baseball season is over, Steve Sabins is able to reflect on his first season as leader of the Mountaineers.

And despite ending with some disappointment in a Super Regional sweep at the hands of LSU, Sabins put the totality of the season in perspective.

“96 players, staff, and student managers gave everything they had to electrify and energize this state. 96 people fought for something bigger than themselves. I am so proud to get to work with our athletes and staff. I am appreciative for all the fans and supporters who love WVU Baseball. Thank you. Go Mountaineers,” said Sabins on social media.

Sabins ascended to the head coach position after Randy Mazey’s retirement following the 2024 season. Sabins then led West Virginia to arguably the greatest season in program history.

Under Sabins, WVU set a new record for overall wins at 44, won the program’s first-ever outright Big 12 regular season conference title and advanced to the NCAA Super Regional stage for the second consecutive year.

Sabins continued the standard set by his predecessor and raised the expectations for years to come.

For a related story, Grant Hussey expresses his displeasure for how his WVU baseball career ended.
