WVU 2026 Recruit Cooper McCutchan Details Visit, Bond with Blaine Stewart
It didn’t take long for Cooper McCutchan, a tight end and basketball star in Ohio, to visit WVU after receiving an offer from the Mountaineers.
And since WV Sports Now has been speaking with McCutchan throughout his recruitment, he detailed his most recent experience on campus from earlier in the month.
“Great trip. Got to talk with coach (Blaine) Stewart for a while about WVU and his history with the program. Had a chance to talk with coach brown for a min also. He remembered my uncle who played for Kentucky. I really liked the stadium and facilities. The king of the climb competition was the best part of the night. Really liked how the players got after it and put on a show. We will definitely be back for a game in the fall,” said McCutchan.
The 6-foot-4, 225-pound McCutchan bringing up WVU tight ends coach Blaine Stewart comes as no surprise. Stewart was who called with the offer and who McCutchan immediately mentioned he was excited to see again when he revealed his plans for to travel to Morgantown in person.
Thanks @CoachBlaineStew and @WVUfootball for the invite to the Take Me Home Tailgate and King of the Climb team competition! Look forward to coming back for a game! #HailWV @MoellerFootball @Coach_B10 @Coach__Finn @LetsGoBigMoe pic.twitter.com/eBdNi06QgE

McCutchan plays both football and basketball as a 2026 prospect at Moeller High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. Even though he has numerous videos of his basketball highlights posted on social media, the expectation is that he’s pursing football in college.
He’s rated as a three-star by Rivals, On3 Sports and 247 Sports. Each outlet ranks McCutchan among their top 30 Ohio prospects and top 25 tight ends nationally.
West Virginia is far from the only major program showing interest in McCutchan. His WVU offer came just a few days after one from Texas A&M and he also has offers from Boston College, Duke, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, Minnesota, Pitt, Purdue, Virginia and many others.
