WVU Baseball scratched out a 3-2 home win over the Cincinnati Bearcats on Thursday, April 17, with reliever Chase Meyer pitching 3.1 scoreless innings to seal the victory.

Meyer allowed just one hit, striking out five batters after entering with the bases loaded in the sixth inning. He fanned Bearcats’ second baseman Lauden Brooks on three pitches to escape the jam. Meyer later froze the tying run at third base with one out in the ninth, capping the ten out save with two more high pressure strikeouts.

The win pushes the Mountaineers’ (32-4, 10-3 Big 12) ongoing winning streak to 12 games… their second longest such streak this season.

Kyle West manufactured a West Virginia run in the first inning, stealing first base with two outs after striking out on a wild pitch. He advanced 90 more feet with another steal, then came home on a Jace Rinehart single. Cincinnati leapt ahead with a two-run single in the third, but the Mountaineers answered back in the bottom of the frame when Spencer Barnett scored aided by a pair of wild pitches.

Rinehart also plated the go-ahead run (and eventual game-winner) in the sixth inning, yet another two-out RBI to score Kyle West.

WVU Baseball looks to take their series with the Bearcats beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 18.
