WVU basketball stayed on the right side of the bubble and received an interesting first-round opponent in the latest update of Joe Lunardi’s Bracketology.

ESPN’s Lunardi has the Mountaineers (16-11, 7-9 Big 12) in a rematch with Louisville (21-6, 14-2 ACC) in the round of 64 in Cleveland. WVU is a No. 10 seed while Louisville is seeded No. 7.

Louisville and West Virginia met earlier this season in non-conference play at the Battle 4 Atlantis in The Bahamas. The Cardinals topped the Mountaineers 79-70 in overtime.

WVU is 3-7 in its last 10 games with four games left in the regular season. The Mountaineers have fallen from a sure-fire NCAA Tournament team to a teamย on the bubbleย in desperate need of a few wins to get in.

The Mountaineers are ranked No. 50 in the latest KenPom update, the teamโ€™s lowest ranking since theย beginning of December. West Virginia has been rankedย in the 40sย since before the start of Big 12 conference play.

First-year head coach Darian DeVries believes that his Mountaineers would be in the tournament if the season ended today.

West Virginia kicks off the final two weeks of the regular season by welcoming TCU to the Coliseum tonight for a 9 p.m. tipoff. The game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
