WATCH: Former Mountaineer Hits Game Winner To Advance Puerto Rico in World Cup

Published

on

Former West Virginia hoops star, Gary Browne, a native of Puerto Rico, plays and starts for the Puerto Rico National Team. Early Wednesday morning for us in the US, but evening in China, Puerto Rico played and beat Tunisia with a final score of 67-64 thanks to Browne’s game winning 3-pointer with 5.1 seconds remaining. You can watch the game winner below.

Browne dribbled out the shot clock and gave a beautiful step back move to make space and get a shot up. Tunisia would attempt a 3-pointer for the tie as time expired, but it didn’t go in. Browne finished the game with nine points on four of nine shooting, four rebounds, eight assists and one steal. Those are some hustle numbers that West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins would be proud of.

Puerto Rico is now in the second round of Group C in Guangzhou, China and now has a 2-1 record. They have already established their best World Cup finish since 2002 and will continue play on Friday.
