WVU Football Battling SEC Schools for 2027 Star RB

Unafraid to compete with SEC schools for a top recruit, WVU football informed running back prospect Asa Barnes of their interest on Wednesday, April 22.

West Virginia sent Barnes an official offer, getting in the mix with the likes of Arkansas, Kentucky and Tennessee as well as many other Power Fours around the country.

Barnes, listed at 5-foot-11 and 205 pounds, is a rated as a three-star running back out of Westview High School in Martin, Tenn.

In addition to his top schools and now WVU, Barnes also has offers from Alabama, Florida State, Maryland, Missouri, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Purdue, USC, Vanderbilt and Virginia Tech.

Barnes led his high school team to a state championship as a junior, running for 1,208 yards on 146 carries and scoring 25 touchdowns. He also caught 27 passes for 567 yards and six more scores as a receiver.
