The WVU football program has placed an emphasis on recruiting in Georgia in recent years and that hard work is paying off. Bernard Lackey, a 2025 prospect out of Covington, Ga. placed West Virginia on his top 10 on Sunday night.

Lackey’s list also includes major programs like Kentucky, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Pitt and Tennessee.

Listed at 6-foot-2 and 165 pounds, Lackey plays on both sides of the ball for Newton High School. Lackey is regarded as a wide receiver by On3 Sports and a cornerback by Rivals as far as how he’s viewed by major outlets.

WV Sports Now reached out to Lackey and confirmed that he’s being recruited by West Virginia as a cornerback.

WVU’s offer is among the most recent out of the schools on Lackey’s top 10. The Mountaineers extended an offer to Lackey on Jan. 30, just a few days after Michigan State made their interest official.
