No WVU player can truly say they’re a Mountaineer until they run up law school hill. Training on that treacherous hill is something active players dread, but alumni look back on fondly.

WVU great Anthony Becht couldn’t resist sharing some of his memories of law school hill after seeing the program post a picture of current Mountaineers running up it.

“This hill got me paid💰…and also a little of this—>🤮,” said Becht on X (formerly Twitter).

And Becht is right, too. His time as a Mountaineer led to his NFL career.

Becht played at WVU from 1996-1999 before kicking off a 12-year professional career in the NFL. He was drafted in the first round by the New York Jets with the 27th overall pick.

After spending five years with the Jets, Becht played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for three years and then a season each with the then St. Louis Rams, Arizona Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs.

In his NFL career, Becht started 132 games while catching 188 passes for 1,537 yards and 21 touchdowns. At WVU, he recorded 1,178 receiving yards with 11 touchdowns on 88 catches in four seasons.

Anthony Becht has coached the St. Louis Battlehawks the past two seasons, first in the XFL and then in the newly formed UFL in 2024.
