West Virginia will continue to allower more and more fans into the WVU Coliseum this winter, announcing Thursday that spectator capacity will be raised to 2,800 starting on Feb. 13.

WVU first started allowing spectators this season on Jan. 30, when the men’s basketball team hosted the Florida Gators in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge. 1,000 Mountaineer Athletic Club members were permitted to purchase tickets to get into the Coliseum.

Earlier this week, WVU announced that number will increase to 1,500 spectators for the men’s basketball game against Kansas on Feb. 6.

Today’s announcement increases that number again to 2,800 on Feb. 13 when the men’s basketball team will host the Oklahoma Sooners.

“I want to thank University, local and state officials for their efforts in determining the capacity at our events in the Coliseum,” WVU athletic director Shane Lyons said in a statement. “We will continue to monitor the pandemic and make appropriate changes if necessary. However, this is positive news for our fans and teams as we continue to trend in the right direction while maintaining priority for the health and safety of all involved.”

The capacity increase will be applied to all remaining home contests for the men’s and women’s basketball teams as well as home wrestling and gymnastics meets.
