WVU Opens as Way, Way Too Early 1-Point Favorite Against Pitt

Published

There’s still seven months, basically the entire offseason ahead, until West Virginia has a chance to avenge the 2022 Backyard Brawl loss to Pitt. But that’s not stopping one major sportsbook releasing some way too early odds for the 2023 edition of the historic rivalry.

This time, WVU will host the Panthers on Sept. 16. And despite WVU coming off a tough 5-7 season while Pitt managed to win 9 total games, including the Sun Bowl, FanDuel actually gives the Mountaineers a slight edge.

The Brawl is among the high-profile matchups FanDuel has already placed odds on, making WVU a one-point home favorite.

Interestingly, FanDuel also says that Pitt-WVU will kick off at 4 p.m. An official time has not been announced yet.

The 2023 Backyard Brawl will kick off at Milan Puskar Stadium in Morgantown for the first time since 2011. The Brawl, of course, was renewed last season at Acrisure Stadium, with Pitt winning close game 38-31 win.

If there’s one thing that’s certain, it will be a very raucous crowd at Milan Puskar Stadium on Sept. 16.
