WVU Football Recruiting
2024 4-Star WVU Commit Obinna Onwuka Dispels Rumors, Remains ‘All in’ with West Virginia
In today’s climate of major college sports, a commitment from a high school recruit only means so much. No player is officially a member of a program until he has actually enrolled in the school.
That’s caused some speculation that Obinna Onwuka, WVU’s top commit in the 2024 class, is far from locked in with West Virginia. Ever since 6-foot-2, 225-pound defensive end prospect Onwuka, who picked the Mountaineers over a group of other Power Five programs, some, most notably Virginia Tech fans, have been predicting he will eventually flip and become a Hokie.
2024 4-Star DE Obinna Onwuka on Why He’s ‘Locked in’ With WVU
Due to having a long relationship with Onwuka and speaking to him throughout his recruitment, WV Sports Now reached out to the Upper Marlboro, Maryland native and he confirmed his plans to take his talents to West Virginia.
He’s also been extremely active on Twitter, displaying his support of the rest of the 2024 class and his desire for those still undecided to join him as future Mountaineers.

In an interview with WVSN back in January, Onwuka talked about what he’s looking for in a school. “Academics, the culture and the mutual support of for students” Onkuwa said are the main traits he wants to find in a college program.
Obinna Onwuka is a versatile player that can play in a 4-3 as an edge rusher or a 3-4 as an outside linebacker. He has the speed to get around the corner and get to pass rushers and ball carriers alike, and even strong enough to get off of would-be blockers and a nice swim move. Onwuka has the closing speed to get home in the backfield, and even with his natural strength and speed, he can add size to his frame to make himself a real impact player.

As things stand, adding Onwuka seems to be yet another WVU victory over Virginia Tech.
