In a decision that alludes to the WVU football staff doing some tinkering to their 2025 recruiting class, an offensive line commit announces he’s re-opening his recruitment.

Class of 2025 and Pennsylvania product offensive lineman Thomas Barr has decided to withdraw his commitment to West Virginia. Barr explained his decision in a post on social media.

“Respectfully, I am decommitting from WVU and reopening my recruitment process. Appreciative for WVU football, however, I believe it is in my best interest to pursue other opportunities. Excited to restart this process and achieve my goals,” said Barr on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday.

Barr — a 6-foot-4, 290-pound offensive lineman from The Haverford School in Haverford, Pa. — announced his commitment to WVU back in April, committing to the Mountaineers at that time over Lafayette and UMass.

Barr de-committing was likely a mutual decision between the player and WVU program due to West Virginia feeling good about their offensive line class. Head coach Neal Brown even alluded to adding more offensive lineman to his 2025 class when asked about recruiting during a press conference earlier in the week.

West Virginia extended Barr his first Division I offer last June, following a camp appearance (along with camp appearances at Maryland, Pitt and Virginia Tech), and the Mountaineers continued to stay in touch throughout the last nine months.

WVU offensive line coach Matt Moore invited Barr out for Junior Day in January, and two months later, he came back for a spring practice in March.

Barr is an interior offensive lineman at Haverford High School, playing in a very tough league out in the Philadelphia area, and his combination of size and speed stand out on film.

West Virginia now has 21 commits, including three offensive linemen – Eidan Buchanan, Gavin Crawford, and Amir Leonard-Jean Charles.
