WVU had multiple players worthy of recognition from their win over Cincinnati, especially on the defensive side of the ball. The Big 12 named defensive back Anthony Wilson Jr. as one of the conference’s Defensive Players of the Week for Week 11.

In addition to a big game from an overall statistics perspective, Wilson made one of the plays of the game as well. Wilson took an interception to the house in the first half for a pick-6 that set the tone of the day.

Wilson totaled 11 tackles, including six registered as solo, to go along with his interception that he returned 79 yards for a touchdown in WVU’s 31-24 road win at Cincinnati.

Wilson’s pick-six marked the first for WVU since Nov. 19, 2022 and his 11 tackles became a new season-high for him as well.

Wilson shares this Bug 12 weekly award with Kansas’ Mello Dotson.

Since his focus is always more about how the team performs above himself individually, Wilson emphasized needing to close games better defensively while talking to the media on Monday. He also expressed a confidence that the WVU defense showed what they are capable of in how fast and aggressive they played against the Bearcats.

“We have to just do a better job of finishing games. If we take care of our mistakes, we’ll be fine,” said Wilson.

For a related story, oddsmakers are unsure how to predict WVU football vs. Baylor this week.
