As a West Virginia native, Quintin Goins grew up idolizing those who played for WVU at Milan Puskar Stadium. He’s now about to take one more step in attempting to eventually realize that dream in the coming days.

After committing as a PWO (preferred walk-on) on Jan. 15, Goins announced he will be officially signing on as a Mountaineer on Feb. 5th. Goins, a 6-foot-3, 25-pound defensive lineman, attends Jefferson High School in Shenandoah Junction, W.Va.

While Goins did visit other schools like Maryland Utah, he eventually decided pursuing his lifelong dream of trying to play for WVU and representing West Virginia was the best path for him after high school.

WV Sports Now talked with Goins last summer after he stood out enough to earn MVP honors at a WVU football camp in June.

“They gave me an MVP award for the whole camp and they said to keep doing a hell of a job,” said Goins. His recent experience at WVU was far from his first.

Goins visited for the spring game and has actually been in steady communication with members of the West Virginia staff. He said the WVU coaches always told him they feel he can become a solid player.

“Still working though, staying in the gym and getting field work. There is always room for improvement. That’s just my mentality,” said Goins about what he’s doing to prepare for the next level of football and his mentality overall.
