Mountaineers in the Pros
Former Mountaineer Alek Manoah Surpasses Personal Best for Strikeouts in MLB Season
The sky continues to be the limit for West Virginia product and current MLB All-Star pitcher Alek Manoah, reaching yet another career milestone this season.
Manoah has been on a mission all year to make it clear his stellar rookie season was no fluke. And after surpassing his 2021 win total and being named an All-Star for the first time, he now adds setting a new season-best strikeout total to his list of 2022 accomplishments.
The 24-year-old right handed pitcher entered his start against the surging Orioles needing only 4 K’s to achieve a new personal high.
Once he reached a season total for punch-outs of one more than last year, he sat at 128 strikeouts. He then added a few more to leave the game at 131 and counting.

Despite the personal achievement, it was not a night for Manoah to celebrate with his Blue Jays teammates. Toronto lost to Baltimore 4-2. Manoah earned the loss, allowing 4 runs off 4 hits in 5.2 innings.
