Regardless which MLB team Mountaineers fans may support, they now have a vested interest in this year’s All-Star Game. West Virginia product and current Toronto Blue Jay pitcher Alek Manoah has been selected to his first career MLB All-Star team.

The 24-year-old Manoah has enjoyed instant success since making his MLB debut in May 2021. After winning 9 games as a rookie, he’s so far posted a 9-4 record with a 2.34 ERA in 17 starts throughout the 2022 season.

Manoah was drafted by the Blue Jays in the 11th round of the 2019 draft. Before being drafted, he finished off a stellar college career at WVU, recording a 2.81 career ERA with the Mountaineers. He was named the Big 12’s best pitcher in 2019 after going 9-4 with a 2.08 ERA and totaling 144 strikeouts in 108 1/3 innings.

The 2022 MLB All-Star Game will be played on Tuesday, July 19 in Los Angeles, CA at Dodgers Stadium.
