Poll: Did Hearing from Former WVU AD Shane Lyons Change Opinion of Him?
Calling Shane Lyons’ tenure as West Virginia’s athletic director polarizing would be being generous, especially in his last few years. He grew increasingly unpopular as the football team failed to climb to at least respectability.
But since most of the opinions about Lyons were formed without knowing inside information and what was going on behind the scenes, it’s now fair to re-evaluate after hearing what he had to say about his time at WVU, especially his experiences with other administrators at the school.
Lyons spoke candidly during an appearance on the WV Metro News Talkline with Hoppy Kercheval about his thoughts on where the football program stands, how he thinks Neal Brown has been doing and that he feels he was blindsided by university president Dr. Gordon Gee.
Former WVU AD Shane Lyons Offers Honest Feelings About Neal Brown, Football Program
So has hearing from Lyons changed your opinion of the West Virginia native’s eight-year run as athletic director at all? And if so, how has it changed?
Reaction from our two main voices here at WV Sports Now can be found below.
I can get the whole it's really year 2 and not fair to hold Neal Brown to normal year 4 standard because of taking over a depleted roster and COVID, but that still doesn't excuse the extension with buyouts as high for only winning a mediocre bowl game. Just didn't warrant it. https://t.co/gJtvfh6IJX

This whole Shane Lyons situation is interesting. Agree that he was the scapegoat.
Don’t agree with the ‘21 contract extension to NB but it’s interesting to hear his side of it and I respect it.
