Florida State transfer Matthew Cleveland has been contacted by West Virginia’s staff, a source tells WV Sports Now. Cleveland just completed his sophomore season at FSU.

Cleveland (6-foot-7) averaged 13.8 points and 7.4 rebounds during his sophomore year under Leonard Hamilton. Cleveland, a native of Atlanta, Ga., shot 45 percent from the field and 35 percent from three. Cleveland was named the ACC Sixth Man of the Year in 2022 before inserting himself in the starting lineup this past season. The Florida State transfer has two years of eligibility remaining.

Cleveland has also heard from Arkansas, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Kansas State, Miami (FL), Michigan, Missouri, NC State, Pitt, South Florida, SMU, Texas, Texas A&M, Wake Forest, Wichita State and others, he tells Joe Tipton of On3 Sports.

West Virginia’s staff has hit the transfer portal hard this offseason, securing three commitments from Jose Perez (Manhattan), Omar Silverio (Manhattan) and Kerr Kriisa (Arizona). Syracuse big man Jesse Edwards and Iowa State guard Caleb Grill will visit Morgantown within the next week. Outside of the portal, West Virginia will return starting forward Tre Mitchell, he announced on Wednesday.

WV Sports Now will keep you up to date on WVU’s transfer portal recruitment.
