Best Virginia Falls to Eberlein Drive in TBT Semis

CHARLESTON W.V.a. – Best Virginia’s historic TBT run has come to an end after falling to Eberlein Drive 85-77 Thursday in the TBT Semifinal.

Jarrod West started scoring on the day with a layup. After two free throws from Eberlein Drive’s Gabe York, West added two more points off a goaltending violation for a 4-2 Best Virginia lead.

Eberlein Drive followed with a 12-4 run, taking a 14-8 lead with 3:33 left in the first quarter.

Toby Okani made a layup before Gabe York added a three-pointer and a layup as Taylor Terry made a layup for a 21-22 Eberlein Drive lead, the team’s largest thus far.

Okani and Isaiah Sanders made consecutive three-pointers to swing momentum in Best Virginia’s favor. Eberlein Drive led 21-18 at the end of the first quarter.

Sanders was a spark for Best Virginia to start the second quarter, tying the game at 21 on a three-pointer. Anthony Slaughter regained the lead for Eberlein Drive with a three, but Sanders responded with another from the right corner.

Layups by Will Vorhees and Toby Okani made it 28-24 for Best Virginia, forcing an Eberlein Drive timeout.

Best Virginia took a 33-27 lead with 4:27 remaining in the half. However, Eberlein Drive capitalized on stagnant offense from the WVU alumni.

Harris made a dunk to regain the lead before another from JD Weatherspoon, but York made an and-one jumper to tie it at 37 with 27 seconds remaining in the half.

Okani stepped up for Best Virginia, nailing a three-pointer before the halftime break as Best Virginia led 40-37.

Mitchell started the half with two free throws. The two teams continued to trade blows, with Reese coming alive for Best Virginia, scoring nine points in the third quarter.

Eberlain Drive regained the lead with a second-chance layup by Tommy Rutherford. Keddy Jonson brought the Charleston Coliseum crowd to its feet with an and-one shot from the baseline, making the free throw.

There were five more lead changes through the third quarter, with Eberlein Drive holding a 64-61 lead heading to the fourth quarter.

Eberlein Drive’s lead held steady at five points before Best Virginia came storming back, cutting the lead to two before the Elam Ending. Best Virginia trailed 77-75 with a target score of 85.

York and Reese traded two-point shots before York nailed a clutch three-pointer at the shot clock buzzer.

York made another three-pointer to put the game away, 85-77.
