2022 WVU Football Preseason Depth Chart – Offense

Quarterbacks

JT Daniels OR Will Crowder OR Nicco Marciol OR Garrett Greene

To no surprise, Neal Brown isn’t tipping his hand here. With that said, it’s also safe to say his bluff can be called and he didn’t bring in JT Daniels to not use him. Daniels didn’t come to Morgantown to not be QB1 either. Despite many clamoring for Garrett Greene last season, he didn’t get much in terms of actual pass packages to warrant serious consideration.

Running Backs

1. Tony Mathis

2. Justin Johnson Jr.

3. Jaylen Anderson

For better or worse, it’s the Tony Mathis Jr. show now. He’s taking over the starting role from Leddie Brown after accumulating less than 100 carries. The idea was for Clemson transfer Lyn-J Dixon to provide a boost to the position, but his time as a Mountaineer ended before even playing a game.

Wide Receivers

X – Bryce Ford-Wheation, Cortez Braham

Z – Kaden Prather, Preston Fox, Jarel Williams

H – Reese Smith,  Graeson Malashevich

Y – Sam James, Jeremiah Aaron

The only thing that really stands out among the receivers is Smith at the “H,” which can be considered the spot position. That’s basically flipping him and Sam James’ roles. Expect the slot to be a very important part of Graham Harrell’s offense. Bryce Ford-Wheaton will also be asked to take the game to another level as the traditional WR1 for JT Daniels (or whoever is at QB – wink).

Tight Ends

1. Brian Polendey

2. Mike O’Laughlin

Mike O’Laughlin could easily reclaim the top spot as he works his back from injury.

Offensive Line

LT – Wyatt Milum, Nick Malone

LG – James Gmiter, Tomas Rimac

C – Zach Frazier, Jordan White

RG – Doug Nestor, Tomas Rimac

RT – Brandon Yates OR Ja’Quay Hubbard

Just as expected, the only battle here is at right tackle.
