WVU Football QB Garrett Greene

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – WV Sports Now can confirm the Saturday morning report by ESPN’S Pete Thamel that Garrett Greene is going to make his return and start for West Virginia against Baylor.

Greene starting comes after he was a full participant at practice all week. On Thursday, WVU head coach Neal Brown confirmed that what he said would occur this week with Greene has materialized fine.

Greene has not played since exiting the Kansas State game at halftime.

Prior to his injury, which has been officially classified as an upper body injury but is believed to be a concussion, Greene was enduring a season full of too many mistakes.

In seven games, Greene has 1,352 yards passing yards, but only nine touchdowns to eight interceptions, which is double his 2023 total. He also has 471 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

Nicco Marchiol will serve as Greene’s backup. West Virginia won back-to-back road conference games with Marchiol under center. But after a strong showing at Arizona, Marchiol struggled last week against Cincinnati.

He completed 9-of-15 passes for 156 yards through the air and then added 18 yards on the ground. It also took until the final minutes of the first half for the WVU offense to find the end zone.

Kickoff for West Virginia 5-4 (4-2, Big 12) vs. Baylor 5-4 (3-3, Big 12) at Milan Puskar Stadium is set for 4 pm ET. The game will air nationally on ESPN2.
