Wanting to elevate his game, a Division II star and national champion has committed to the WVU football program. Ferris State transfer running back Kannon Katzer announced his commitment on Thursday after his trip to West Virginia.

“Thank you to all the coaches who have built relationships with me and recruited me. With that being said blessed to announce my commit to WVU,” said Katzer on social media

The Mountaineers officially offered Katzer on April 28. He then visited Morgantown and committed within only a few days.

Katzer’s production also speaks to why Division I programs pursued him. He played in 15 games in 2024 as Ferris State’s top running back, rushing for 1,128 yards with 11 touchdowns.

Katzer averaged a staggering 8.8 yards per carry and saved his best performances for the biggest games, gashing Slippery Rock to the tune of 165 yards on only 13 carries and a score in the national semifinals.

He also brings a winning pedigree with him, having just come off winning a Division II national championship.

Prior to Ferris State, Katzer began his college career as a walk-on at Washington State, where he saw action in one game in 2022. He then played at Citrus College, recording 975 yards and 16 touchdowns in 11 games.

Katzer has only one true year of eligibility remaining, but can apply for more time due to his junior college time.
