WVU Football Offers National Champion RB Coming Off Monster Season
As Rich Rodriguez and his WVU football staff continue to look far and wide for more transfer talent, they sent an offer to a national champion on Monday.
West Virginia is interested in Ferris State running back Kannon Katzer, believing he can elevate his game to provide more depth for their ground game attack. Katzer would also bring a winning pedigree with him, having just come off winning a Division II national championship.

Katzer’s production also speaks to why Division I programs are now pursuing him. He played in 15 games in 2024 as Ferris State’s top running back, running for 1,128 yards with 11 touchdowns. Katzer averaged a staggering 8.8 yards per carry and saved his best performances for the biggest games, gashing Slippery Rock to the tune of 165 yards on only 13 carries and a score in the national semifinals.

Prior to Ferris State, Katzer began his college career as a walk-on at Washington State, where he saw action in one game in 2022. He then played at Citrus College, recording 975 yards and 16 touchdowns in 11 games.
He only has one true year of eligibility remaining, but can apply for more time due to his junior college time.
