West Virginia men’s basketball coach Bob Huggins, junior Derek Culver and sophomore Miles “Deuce” McBride all earned U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) and National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District honors, the two groups announced Tuesday.

The USBWA divides its districts geographically. WVU is in District II, which includes New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Washington DC, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Huggins was named the USBWA District II Coach of the Year and both Culver and McBride to the All-District team.

The NABC divides districts by conference, with the Big 12 being District 8. Culver and McBride were both named Second Team All-District. Baylor coach Scott Drew was named the District 8 Coach of the Year.

In his 14th season as head coach, Huggins led the Mountaineers to an 18-9 overall record, 11-6 in Big 12 play. No. 13 WVU has five wins over top-25 ranked opponents this season. The Mountaineers were the No. 4 seed in the Big 12 tournament but were defeated in the quarterfinal round by Oklahoma State. Huggins is currently one win away from 900 career wins, sitting at 899.

Culver, a forward from Youngstown, Ohio, enjoyed a breakout season, establishing himself as one of the best post players in the Big 12 this season. He averaged a career-high 14.6 points per game and leads the conference in rebounding (9.8 per game) and double-doubles (11). He was named a First Team All-Big 12 selection for the first time in his career and eclipsed 1,000 career points in WVU’s regualr-season finale.

McBride led the Mountaineers in scoring (15.5 ppg) en route to a Second Team All-Big 12 selection. The Cincinnati, Ohio native took hold of the starting point guard job this season, starting 26 of 27 games and also leading the team with 4.7 assists per game.

West Virgnia was selected as a No. 3 seed in the upcoming men’s NCAA tournament and will play No. 14 seed Morehead State in the opening round. WVU and MCU will tip-off at 9:50 p.m. Friday from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
