The AP Names WVU’s Derek Culver and Deuce McBride All-American Honorable Mentions

West Virginia junior Derek Culver and sophomore Miles “Deuce” McBride have both been named All-American honorable mentions, the Associated Press announced Tuesday. Culver and McBride were also both named to the USBWA and NABC All-District teams on Tuesday.

Culver, a forward from Youngstown, Ohio, enjoyed a breakout season, establishing himself as one of the best post players in the Big 12 this season. He averaged a career-high 14.6 points per game and leads the conference in rebounding (9.8 per game) and double-doubles (11). He was named a First Team All-Big 12 selection for the first time in his career and eclipsed 1,000 career points in WVU’s regualr-season finale.

McBride led the Mountaineers in scoring (15.5 ppg) en route to a Second Team All-Big 12 selection. The Cincinnati, Ohio native took hold of the starting point guard job this season, starting 26 of 27 games and also leading the team with 4.7 assists per game.

Other Big 12 players honored by the AP include Baylor’s Jared Butler (First Team), Davion Mitchell (Third Team) and MaCio Teague (Honorable Mention), Oklahoma State’s Cade Cunningham (First Team), Texas’s Andrew Jones (Honorable Mention), Texas Tech’s Mac McClung (Honorable Mention) and Oklahoma’s Austin Reaves (Honorable Mention).
