Visiting Middle Tennessee hung with Marshall for most of Saturday’s game at the Cam Henderson Center in Huntington, but in the end the Thundering Herd’s talented trio of guards were just too much for the Blue Raiders to handle.

Senior Jarrod West, a Clarksburg native, along with junior Taevion Kinsey and sophomore Andy Taylor helped the Herd keep MTSU at arm’s length down the stretch as Marshall came away with a 96-85 win and a weekend sweep of its Conference USA rival.

“Our three guards are as good as it gets in this country,” Marshall coach Dan D’Antoni said. “I’m excited to watch them and I love coaching them.”

West led the way with a career-high 29 points to go with six assists and three more steals added to the school record he already owns. Kinsey had 25 points for the second consecutive game and Taylor nearly had a double-double with 10 points and nine assists for Marshall (12-5, 6-4 C-USA).

Jannson Williams, who set the school’s all-time blocks record in Friday’s win, added four more to his career total on Saturday along with nine points and four rebounds.

Marshall followed a very good shooting performance Friday with an even better one in Saturday’s win. MU hit 37 of its 61 field goal attempts (60.7 percent), but Middle Tennessee (5-13, 3-9 C-USA) kept it close by connecting on 12 3-pointers against the Herd.

Jalen Jordan led MTSU with with 25 points in the loss. Teammate DeAndre Dishman had a double-double with 17 points and a team-high 10 rebounds while Jordan Davis also scored 17 points for the Blue Raiders on Saturday.

The Thundering Herd is scheduled to hit the road for next weekend’s C-USA set of games on Friday and Saturday at Rice.
