Marshall Fan Confesses to Accidentally Supporting WVU NIL

WVU NIL

Even in the grocery store, WVU and Marshall are competing for NIL money in the same state. In the world of Name, Image and Likeness, anything could be going towards a school’s collective. For this Marshall fan, he accidentally supported the wrong school by buying WVU’s Country Roads Trust Lager at the grocery store, where some of the proceeds go towards NIL for the Mountaineers.

This Marshall fan expressed his regret over a message board post.

“Just got back from Kroger, picked up a 4-pack of this beer, thought it seemed appropriate for West Virginia Day. I proceed to Google the Country Roads Trust thinking it’s some kind of community program. Nope. It’s WVU’s NIL fund. Doesn’t say that anywhere on the label. 15% of proceeds from the beer go to the fund.”

Below is the full post from Message Board Geniuses on X.

Last August, Country Roads Trust debuted Trust Lager, their own beer partnered with Big Timber Brewing. 15% of all beer sales go towards Country Roads Trust, WVUโ€™s NIL collective for student-athletes.

Trust Lager is also sold at West Virginia football games and is available at state’s stores. There was even a limited edition bourbon with the proceeds benefiting WVU sports.

Moral of the story: pay attention to which beer you’re buying at the grocery store. It may be supporting your rival school’s NIL now.
