WVU Track Star Qualifies for Paris Olympics
WVU fans now have an extra incentive to watch the upcoming Olympics. Mountaineer track star Ceili McCabe qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games earlier this week.
The West Virginia senior will represent Canada in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase after finishing in first place at the Canadian Athletics Bell Track and Field Championships in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on Thursday evening.
McCabe posted a time of 9:32.97, becoming the second Mountaineer in program history to qualify for the women’s steeplechase at the Olympic Games.
A couple other WVU track and field athletes competed this week as well. Redshirt junior Cassandra Williamson took part in the womenโs 800-meter dash on Friday night at the Canadian Athletics Bell Track and Field Championship. Williamson finished 16th overall in the preliminary round with a time of 2:08.58.
Also, redshirt senior Sarah Tait added a personal best time of 9:49.88 with a fourth-place finish in the womenโs steeplechase at the UK Athletics Championships Manchester in Manchester, England on Saturday afternoon.
The 2024 Summer Olympics will take place in Paris, France on July 26-August 11. McCabe is scheduled to compete in round one of the womenโs 3,000-meter steeplechase on August 4 at 4:05 am ET.ย
