Mountaineers Down Eagles in Game 2
The West Virginia Mountaineers (4-2) wins game one of a doubleheader over Georgia Southern Eagles (1-4). In the first game of the doubleheader, WVU took advantage of the base pads to take the series over the Eagles.
Sophomore Tyler Doanes started the game with a leadoff single through the right side and Marcus Inman drew a walk and Ivan Gonzalez cleared the bases with a shot into left-center for the early 2-0 lead.
Starting pitcher Jackson Wolfe stayed in control of the game until the 8th inning when head coach Randy Mazey went to his bullpen for freshman Beau Lowery after Wolfe hit Blake Evans and walked Tyler Martin.
Christian Avant smacked one into right field bringing in Evans for the Eagles only score of the game.
The Mountaineers added some insurance in the top of the ninth after Tevin Tucker drew a walk and advanced to third on a wild pitch and then scored on a wild pitch.
West Virginia will look to sweep Georgia Southern in the second game of the doubleheader Saturday evening.
