Mountaineers Drop Second Game of Doubleheader
The West Virginia Mountaineers (4-3) found themselves in a pitching duel Saturday night in the second game of a doubleheader versus the Georgia Southern Eagles (2-4). WVU loses 1-0 after leaving nine runners left stranded, five were in scoring position.
Georgia Southern took their first lead of the series in the sixth inning. It started with an error at third and that led to Nolan Tressler taking second and two batters later, a fielder’s choice that didn’t lead to anything brought Tressler home for the games only run.
Starting Mountaineer pitcher Kade Strowd went six and two thirds with eight strikeouts.
West Virginia gave the Eagles a scare in the top of the ninth when Tristan Hudson starting the inning with a hard hit into right field for a single. He would steal second and a sacrifice fly by pinch hitter Andrew Zitel in rightfield foul territory moved Hudson to third.
The Mountaineers couldn’t bring Hudson in as TJ Lake ended the game popping up just in foul territory by third base to a falling Christian Avant.
West Virginia will host Towson Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 pm at Monongalia County Ballpark.
