NFL Camp Report: Wesco and Sills Make Plays, White Gets a Tryout

Videos of a couple of former West Virginia playmakers making plays in NFL camps made the rounds on Twitter this week.

First, it was a video of former WVU tight end Trevon Wesco making a diving catch with the New York Jets.

Wesco goes full extension and is completely off the ground by the time the ball hits his hands. How much of a connection Wesco can build with Jets starting quarterback Sam Darnold, the QB in the video, is probably crucial to how much he will be utilized this season. After drafting Wesco in the fourth round of the 2019 draft, the Jets hardly used him throughout last season. Wesco finished his rookie campaign with just two receptions for 47 yards.

One day after Wesco’s video, former WVU wide receiver David Sill V was featured in a video from the other New York team, the Giants, making an over-the-shoulder catch for a touchdown.

Much like Wesco, Sills’s connection with Giants starter Daniel Jones would be what could get him some playing time, however, the quarterback throwing the touchdown to Sills in the video is NFL veteran Colt McCoy. Sills went undrafted in 2019. He was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Bills but was waived before the season. The Giants signed him to the practice squad in Sept. and promoted him to the active roster in Dec.

Finally, there was a report from NFL insider Field Yates that the Jets will be working out former WVU receiver Kevin White.

The Chicago Bears drafted White seventh overall in the 2015 draft, but his professional career has been devastated by injuries ever since. The Arizona Cardinals were giving White a look last preseason but cut him before the season began. The Jets also have 2019 WVU receiver George Campbell on the roster right now as an undrafted free agent.
