WVU Football Safety Davis Mallinger celebrates the win with fans

With the WVU football season winding down, players are evaluating what’s best for their individual future. West Virginia’s Davis Mallinger has decided that it’s time for him to move on and bring his talents to another program.

Mallinger announced his intentions to enter the Transfer Portal on Tuesday night. He posted a long message to explain his decision, thanking his teammates and coaches at WVU and Mountaineer Nation as a whole.

“I would like to express my gratitude to my family and friends for their unwavering support, which has played a crucial role in my current achievements,” said Mallinger.

“I am truly thankful for coach Wright who has had a significant impact on shaping both my personal and athletic development. I would also like to extend my thanks to the West Virginia University football staff for the incredible opportunities they have provided me.

The West Virginia fans have made my time as a Mountaineer unforgettable, and I am excited to announce that I will be entering the transfer portal.”

He then closed his message by saying, “look forward to the next chapter in my life, the best is yet to come!”

After initially playing safety during his first two seasons in Morgantown, the redshirt sophomore out of Cocoa, Florida switched to wide receiver, the position he played in high school, in the offseason. Unfortunately for Mallinger, he was never really able to crack the lineup much for the Mountaineers as a receiver. He recorded 28 total tackles and two sacks as a defensive player.
