Week 7 Preview of the Big XII

Published

on

Last week, we saw West Virginia take Texas Christian down to the wire in Fort Worth and we saw Iowa State travel to Norman and shock the Sooners, winning its first-ever game against a top-5 opponent. This weekend is shaping up to be just as exciting as last week.

Let’s take a look at the notable Big XII games this weekend.

No.6 TCU 5-0 (2-0) at Kansas State 3-2 (1-1)

The Horned Frogs are coming off a solid win against the Mountaineers in a thriller in Fort Worth. Meanwhile, things aren’t looking good for Kansas State. Last week, they traveled to Austin, Texas to take on the Longhorns, hoping to feed off the win versus Baylor a week prior. But it wasn’t meant to be as the double-overtime thriller didn’t go their way at the end. This week, K-State has a much tougher opponent. Texas Christian – who was unranked coming into the season – are now 6th and making a potential playoff run. K-State will have to score points to even come close to a win. Unfortunately, that’s not something they’re good at.
My Pick: TCU 40 KSU 10

No.24 Texas Tech 4-1 (1-1) at West Virginia 3-2 (1-1)

Unfortunately for Texas Tech, they have to visit a pissed off West Virginia squad in Morgantown just after breaking into the top-25. The Mountaineers were an overturned interception and questionable pass interference call away from knocking off the Horned Frogs last week. Many tabbed West Virginia as the Big XII sleeper to start the season, but need a win at home this weekend to justify those claims. Despite the Mountaineers’ 3-2 record, there’s no doubt that Texas Tech is facing a top-25 team in Morgantown.
My pick: WVU 37 TTU 23

No.12 Oklahoma 4-1 (1-1) vs Texas 3-2 (2-0)

Oklahoma is coming off a devastating loss to Iowa State at home – likely knocking them from playoff contention – and have to turn around and play its most hated rival this weekend. Texas is coming off a win in a double overtime against K-State in Austin. Oklahoma needs to be careful. Many people are sleeping on Texas, and they could pull off a huge upset against an emotional Oklahoma. Rankings mean very little when these two teams meet at the Cotton Bowl. Expect a close one either way.
My pick: OU 47 UT 37
