The West Virginia defense is in need of some experience in their defensive backfield after losing Tykee Smith, Jayvon Thrift and Jake Long from last year’s depth chart.

Today, they extended an offer to a talented player that has announced on Tuesday that he was transferring from Tulsa.

Akayleb Evans picked up an offer today from the Mountaineers. It’s been a busy day for him as he also picked up offers from Oregon State, Louisville, Texas Tech and Kansas State.

Evans is a talented defensive back with plenty of experience, as he’s played in 30 games over four seasons for the Hurricanes. Last season, the 6’2″, 180 defensive back started 9 games, totaling 29 tackles, 3 pass breakups, a forced fumble and a sack.

Following the 2020 season, Evans was someone that many NFL Draft Insiders thought would declare for the NFL Draft but decided to return to college for at least another season.

Evans played in only 3 games in the 2019 season after injuring his shoulder and received a medical hardship from the NCAA, so combined with the year all athletes received last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Evans will have two seasons of athletic eligibility remaining.
