Something sports fans love to debate that has nothing to do with how a team plays on the field is how their team looks. And WVU football fans are no exception.

A team’s uniform, and when it comes to football, helmet, serves as a representation of a city, franchise or school. Gone are the days a team keeps one permanent look throughout a season. West Virginia switches up its look on a weekly basis during the season.

A member of Mountaineer Nation recently posted an image of a new helmet concept. This was tweeted by the account @EerRational and would be an all blue helmet with “‘Eers,” a slang for Mountaineers, on each side.

An alternate option of an all gold helmet with ‘Eers in black was offered too.

It’s an interesting concept, but one that sparked a big debate among WVU fans. Some voiced being intrigued by the new idea, especially since the West Virginia program has been no stranger to incorporating new uniforms and helmets in recent years, most notably the Country Roads uniform combination that debuted to kickoff the 2022 season in the return of the Backyard Brawl.

Another fan also brought up an idea for black WVU football uniforms a few months ago.
