The WVU football program will soon learn if they landed a four-star recruit with West Virginia roots. Jerrae “Tank” Hawkins Jr., a class of 2024 wide receiver, tweeted when he will announce his commitment on Sunday morning.

Hawkins says his commitment will come on June 26. Originally from Wheeling, West Virginia, Hawkins attends IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

WVU is in the running for Hawkins along with Florida, Miami, Louisville, Penn State and Wisconsin. He’s listed at 5-foot-9 and 165 pounds and is ranked as the number 26 player in Florida, the number 28 wide receiver and the number 177 overall recruit nationally, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.

2024 4-Star WV Native WR Jerrae Hawkins Places WVU in Top 6

Hawkins has elite track speed, made evident by winning the 60-, 100-, and 200-meter dash in the West Virginia 3A State Championships as a sophomore.

Being a local prospect, Hawkins has been in communication with the Mountaineers for well over a year. He first officially visited last April during Spring practice.

Due to Hawkins moving to attend IMG Academy in Florida, WVU wide receivers coach Bilal Marshall could now be a factor in the program’s pursuit of Hawkins.

Hawkins has the speed to get by defensive backs, but he is a very slender player that will need to add weight to his frame, so he won’t be limited to gadget plays or playing in the slot at the next level. He also played some snaps at cornerback this past season at IMG.
