This past weekend, Neal Brown and his staff hosted a few players on official visits and one of them received an official offer from the Mountaineers.

2022 3-star defensive end Asani Redwood was in Morgantown and earned his second Power Five offer. Redwood (6-foot-3, 240 pounds) is from Collins Hill High School in Suwanee, Ga. and also holds an offer from Vanderbilt.

West Virginia Sports Now caught up briefly with Redwood on Monday morning, as he was heading home, to get his thoughts on the offer and his first, real look at the West Virginia program.

“Coach Brown offered me,” Redwood told West Virginia Sports Now. “He said they knew about me through Coach Wofford, one of my coaches. He said they were looking for the three things that they look for when offering someone: One, can they play? Two, can they excel academically? Three, is he a right fit personally? He said that I checked all of those boxes. After getting the offer, I couldn’t stop smiling because I really wanted this one. I think West Virginia would be a great fit for me academically and football wise.”

“Right now, Vanderbilt and West Virginia are high on my list. This offer means that my hard work is coming through and this will definitely have people looking at me know. So their might be some more offers but this was a great one for me.”

National Signing Day is next Wednesday but Redwood tells WVSN that he plans on signing in February because he hasn’t had the opportunity to visit Vanderbilt yet, something he needs to do before making a decision. He isn’t able to make any visits in the near future because his high school team is playing in the Georgia state championships this weekend and “possibly the national championship next weekend in Las Vegas.”
