WVSN WVU Football Transfer Portal Tracker – December 28
Since the WVU football program is experiencing a transition and knew that would mean an influx of players going in and out of West Virginia, WV Sport Now is offering this separate notebook that will serve as a tracker of the transfer portal movement.
Below are the most recent players who were reported or confirmed to be entering the transfer portal and any updates about their future.
As of Friday morning, another West Virginia player is in the transfer portal. Offensive lineman Kyle Altuner is now looking to transfer after only one year at WVU.
Altuner, 6-foot-3, 290 pounds, dealt with an injury throughout most of 2024. He signed with WVU in December of 2023 out of Good Counsel High School in Olney, Md.
Now former Mountaineer CJ Donaldson has found a new home as the running back will transfer to Ohio State, he announced Monday.
Donaldson entered the transfer portal last week after spending the first three years of his career at West Virginia.
Originally recruited as a tight end, CJ Donaldson converted to running back after arriving in Morgantown and burst onto the scene by rushing for 125 yards and a touchdown on just seven carries in the 2022 season-opener against Pitt. He finished with 526 rushing yards and eight touchdowns in seven games before his freshman season was cut short due to a leg injury.
Last season, Donaldson again battled injuries to rush for 798 yards and 11 touchdowns in 12 games. He formed a backfield tandem with freshman running back Jahiem White and quarterback Garrett Greene to help make WVU one of the top rushing teams in the country.
This year, Dondalson replicated his 2023 success by running for 734 yards and 11 more touchdowns. He also became more of a factor in the passing game, making 14 receptions for 104 yards and a score.
Donaldson is the latest former Mountaineer to find a new home this offseason as receiver DayDay Farmer is heading to UCF and linebacker Josiah Trotter is going to Missouri.
