WVU baseball star JJ Wetherholt continues to receive recognition for his 2023 season. Wetherholt has been named a first-team All-American by Collegiate Baseball News.

This national honor comes after the West Virginia sophomore was crowned the Big 12 Player of the Year and placed as a semifinalist for both the Golden Spikes Award and Dick Howser Trophy.

Wetherholt finished second in the country with a .443 batting average while recording 15 home runs, 94 hits, 56 RBI, 66 runs scored, 22 doubles and three triples despite missing some games due to injury. He also helped lead the Mountaineers to their first share of a Big 12 regular season title in program history.

Wetherholt’s 35 stolen bases make him one of just two players in the nation with 35 stolen bases and 15 home runs.

The Mars, Pennsylvania native owns 31 multiple-hit games and reached base in all but two games he appeared in during the 2023 season.

Wetherholt and WVU baseball will begin NCAA Regional play on Friday, taking on Indiana in Lexington, Kentucky. First pitch from Kentucky Proud Park is set for 7 p.m. with the game available to stream on ESPN+.
