Just a couple days after Trent MacLean revealed his commitment to West Virginia, the WVU basketball staff announced the official signing of the four-star prospect.

On Thursday, MacLean signed his grant-in-aid for the 2025-26 season. This comes after the highly coveted power forward announced he picked the Mountaineers over staying out west to play for Saint Mary’s.

MacLean, the son of UCLA legend Don MacLean, stands at 6-foot-9 and is entering his senior year at SoCal Academy. He’s ranked as one of the top 150 prospects in the country by 247 Sports.

West Virginia’s staff just extended an offer to MacLean in early October and then hosted him a week later.

“Excited to be offered by West Virginia University. Thank you coach [Darian] DeVries, coach [Tom] Ostrom and the whole staff for believing in me,” MacLean wrote on social media.

During his recruitment, MacLean picked up offers from Arizona State, Loyola Marymount, Rutgers, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara and others. MacLean is originally from Westwood Village, Ca.

MacLean’s teammate, Odih, is another one WVU’s latest commitment. Odih chose the Mountaineers over Rutgers and Louisville, giving West Virginia its first four-star commitment in the Darian DeVries era. Odih is also the last four-star commitment since Isaiah Cottrell back in 2020.

“Everything was great. I really enjoyed my time over there. The coaching staff was very welcoming,” Odih said at the time to WV Sports Now.

Odih and Braydon Hawthorne (three-star forward) make up the rest of DeVries’ second high school class so far at West Virginia.

I Know it’s a different era with the portal and all but is this the first time WVU has brought in two **4** star recruits in the same class?
