WVU Football Adds DL Emerson Joy Out of Canada to 2026 Roster

Despite a smoother spring and no second transfer portal window, Rich Rodriguez is still not completely finished tinkering with the his 2026 WVU football roster.

West Virginia looked up north, and way north, for more defensive depth, adding defensive lineman Emerson Joy out of the University of Alberta in Canada.

Listed at 6-foot-6 and 240 pounds, Joy has two years of experience in Canada. He recorded 28 tackles, 5.5 tackles for a loss, three sacks, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. His best season came in his most recent in 2025 when he made 20 tackles, 5.5 tackles for a loss and registered three sacks.
