As part of their recent recruiting efforts, the WVU football staff sent an offer to a highly coveted Ohio athlete.

Deontay Malone, listed at 6-foot and 180 pounds, revealed his West Virginia offer on March 9. His WVU offer came a few days after earning one from Auburn.

With experience at both wide receiver and defensive back, Malone is a standout star at Washington High School in Massillon, Ohio. He’s ranked as a four-star in the 2027 class and one of the top 15 prospects in Ohio by 247 Sports.

Malone’s impressive offer list helps speak to how he’s perceived nationally. He also has offers from Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, North Carolina and Ohio State as well as lower offers from Appalachian State, Bowling Green, East Carolina, Kent State, Miami (OH) and several others.

He caught 34 passes for 498 yards and scored nine touchdowns on offense and made 25 tackles and three interceptions on defense. Malone even racked up a total of 1,112 returns yards.
