WVU Football Going After Very Popular 2027 4-Star Ohio Edge

Trying to build the future of the Mountaineer pass rush, the WVU football staff sent an offer to an Ohio four-star edge.

A product of Cincinnati, Jaylen Mercer revealed his West Virginia offer on Thursday, April 2. WVU defensive line coach William Green called Mercer directly to inform him of WVU’s interest.

Listed at 6-foot-5 and 230 pounds, Mercer is ranked as a top 20 player for his class in the talent-rich Ohio. Mercer was named a Max Preps All-American for his play as a junior in 2025.

A highly coveted recruit, Mercer also has major offers from his Arizona State, Boston College, hometown program of Cincinnati, Kentucky, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas State, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Northwestern, Oregon, Pitt, Stanford, Tennessee, Texas A&M, USC, Wisconsin, Notre Dame and several lower level schools.
