WVU Football Recruits Visiting for Season Opener Showcase Game Against Penn State
Kicking off the season at home in front of a national audience provides the WVU football program with a unique opportunity to showcase everything it has to offer to recruits and possible future Mountaineers.
Here are some of the most notable recruits who are confirmed to be visiting Morgantown on Saturday to attend the Penn State.
Scotty Fox (2025 QB Commit, OH)
Scotty Fox, a 2025 prospect already committed to West Virginia, revealed he will be in attendance when the Mountaineers take on the Nittany Lions at Milan Puskar Stadium.
The Mentor High School in Mentor, Ohio product announced his commitment to WVU after a win during the 2023 season following the game. Fox posted a graphic on social media and added “committed!!!” as the simple caption.

Fox, who initially received an offer from West Virginia back in May, has remained in steady contact with the WVU coaching staff. He even recently visited on Jan. 20.
Brodie McWhorter (2026 QB Commit, GA)
2026 four-star quarterback Brodie McWhorter will be on campus and visiting the WVU football program as the Mountaineers kickoff the 2024 season against Penn State on August 31.
McWhorter, who announced his commitment to West Virginia on June 24, added his upcoming visit as part of a post to thank the WVU staff on Sunday.
“More than thankful for all the love and letters from my people – Blessed to be a Mountaineer. Can’t wait to be back in Almost Heaven on the 31st,” he said.
Matt Sieg (2026 4-Star, PA’s WPIAL)
Matt Sieg, the top 2026 recruit from the WPIAL, will be among the recruits in Morgantown when WVU kicks off the 2024 season against Penn State, another program pursuing Western Pennsylvania prospect.
The 4-star defensive back from Fort Cherry High School will be watching WVU in the first two weeks of the college football season.
Matt Sieg tells our partner Nittany Sports Now that he’ll be in Morgantown for the West Virginia-Penn State game. The following weekend (September 7th), Sieg will be at Penn State’s Home Opener vs. Bowling Green. In Week 3, Sieg will be attending The Backyard Brawl in Pittsburgh between West Virginia and Pitt.
The 6-foot, 170-pound multi-sport star is rated by Rivals.com as the No. 5 overall prospect in Pennsylvania and one of the Top 200 overall players in the Class of 2026.
Romando Johnson (2025 3-Star Edge, FL)
Romando Johnson’s commitment came after he spent the weekend in Morgantown for his official visit. The 6-foot-4, 240-pound Johnson is consensus three-star prospect out of Monarch High School in West Palm Beach, Fla.
On3 Sports ranks Johnson as their No. 68 player in Florida while Rivals has him as high as their No. 27 Edge in the country. Johnson picked WVU over 30 other offers from major programs like Florida, Louisville, Miami (FL), Penn State, Syracuse, Tennessee, USF and Wisconsin.
Daiveon Taylor (2026 3-Star LB, PA’s WPIAL)
Daiveon Taylor, 6-foot-2, 210-pounds, revealed his commitment to the Mountaineers during a conversation with WVU legend Pat McAfee.

Taylor, a 2026 three-star prospect, posted a video of his talk with McAfee on social media. He committed to WVU over offers from Penn State, Pitt, Syracuse and a bunch of other schools.
Taylor started his high school career at Bishop Canevin before transferring to Aliquippa.
Taylor is a big, well-built linebacker coming off his freshman season at Bishop Canevin, and he made an impact across the offensive and defensive side of the football.
He recorded 76 tackles (62 solo), 23 tackles for loss, a team-high 17 sacks, forced two fumbles, recovered four and broke up two passes to help lead the Crusaders to a 12-2 season.
