WPIAL star Matt Sieg at WVU

Matt Sieg, the top 2026 recruit from the WPIAL, will be among the recruits in Morgantown when WVU kicks off the 2024 season against Penn State, another program pursuing Western Pennsylvania prospect.

The 4-star defensive back from Fort Cherry High School will be watching WVU in the first two weeks of the college football season.

Matt Sieg tells our partner Nittany Sports Now that he’ll be in Morgantown for the West Virginia-Penn State game. The following weekend (September 7th), Sieg will be at Penn State’s Home Opener vs. Bowling Green. In Week 3, Sieg will be attending The Backyard Brawl in Pittsburgh between West Virginia and Pitt.

The 6-foot, 170-pound multi-sport star is rated by Rivals.com as the No. 5 overall prospect in Pennsylvania and one of the Top 200 overall players in the Class of 2026.

Aside from Penn State, Pitt and West Virginia, Sieg holds an impressive offer list that includes Maryland, Minnesota, Michigan State, Missouri, Nebraska, Rutgers, Syracuse, USC and Wisconsin.

Earlier this week, Rivals.com National Recruiting Insider Adam Gorney had this to say about Gorney’s recruitment:

“A handful of programs have emerged as the front-runners for the McDonald (Pa.) Fort Cherry standout as Penn State and Wisconsin could end up battling it out with USC, Rutgers and West Virginia as the other programs to watch.

From suburban Pittsburgh, Sieg is closest to Morgantown but the Nittany Lions and the Badgers among others have definitely caught his attention as well.”

If Sieg would pick the Nittany Lions, it would continue Penn State’s recent dominance of recruiting the top players from Western Pennsylvania. In the last two recruiting classes, James Franklin and ace WPIAL recruiter Terry Smith have landed 4-star RB Quinton Martin (Belle Vernon), 4-star LB Anthony Speca (Central Catholic), 3-star WR Peter Gonzalez (Central Catholic), 4-star RB Tiqwai Hayes (Aliquippa), 4-star OL Brady O’Hara (North Catholic), 3-star DB Xxavier Thomas (Central Catholic), 4-star LB Alex Tatsch (Latrobe) and 4-star LB Dayshawn Burnett (Imani Christian).
